Elea Wins Bid to Build 30 MVA Petrobras Data Center in São Paulo
Historic R$2.3B/~US$0.5B agreement is the largest IT infrastructure contract of its kind ever awarded in Latin America

Elea Data Centers, the leading sustainable platform in Brazil and the first to implement Artificial Intelligence (AI) on a large scale in Latin America, announces that it has been awarded a landmark public bid to build a data center for Petrobras, one of the world’s largest oil and gas companies.
The R$2.3 billion (approximately US$0.5 billion) 17-year contract represents the largest IT infrastructure initiative ever awarded by a Latin American company. The project involves the development of a high-capacity, 30 megavolt-amperes (MVA) data center with advanced liquid cooling technology. The facility will host Petrobras’ supercomputers and process critical scientific data across exploration, research, and reservoir operations, while also supporting AI workloads. Reflecting its commitment to a fair energy transition, Petrobras required the facility to be powered exclusively by renewable energy, positioning this project as a global model for sustainability.
“Since 2024, we have positioned ourselves as the first infrastructure platform in Brazil and Latin America dedicated to AI because we believe this transformation is essential for the country. Winning the contract with Petrobras is an important milestone and reinforces our commitment to technological leadership in the sector,” said Alessandro Lombardi, Chairman and Founder of Elea Data Centers. The project will be hosted at Elea’s São Bernardo do Campo campus in the ABC region of São Paulo, a strategic location with extensive power transmission infrastructure.
The new facility further underscores Elea’s leadership in environmentally responsible digital infrastructure. It will operate on 100% certified renewable energy, incorporate cooling systems with full water reuse, and meet strict efficiency standards aligned with Petrobras’ sustainability requirements. While a handful of sustainable data centers have been built globally, this project is the first of its kind at this scale in Latin America.
The Petrobras contract coincides with other large-scale Elea initiatives, including Rio AI City, a next-generation hub for AI and cloud workloads in Rio de Janeiro’s Olympic Park. With a projected capacity of up to 3.2 GW, Rio AI City is set to become one of the most ambitious digital infrastructure projects in the region.
