Elea Digital Data Centers Supports Porto Alegre Community Amidst Devastating Floods in South Brazil

With 4MW of electrical capacity in the capital of Rio Grande do Sul, the region’s most prominent digital infrastructure platform is supporting the operation of essential services.

Elea Digital Data Centers, a leading provider of digital infrastructure and colocation services in Brazil’s Tier 1 and Tier 2 markets, announced its data center in Porto Alegre (POA1) remains fully operational and is supporting critical community services amid catastrophic flooding that has impacted the region.

Since the Guaíba River in Rio Grande do Sul began overflowing on May 2, causing widespread devastation as one of the biggest catastrophes in the state’s history, Elea’s POA1 data center, located in the Bela Vista neighborhood, has been the only data center in the region with dry access. The site has been a lifeline in providing companies and government agencies with emergency IT infrastructure, as over 80% of Elea’s data center capacity in the city continues running to support regional recovery efforts. Among POA1’s tenants is the state energy distributor, responsible for supplying energy to 1.8 million customers throughout Rio Grande do Sul.

“As a committed member of the Porto Alegre community, we are utilizing our data center infrastructure to aid organizations and relief services during this difficult time,” said Alessandro Lombardi, President and Chairman of Elea Digital Data Centers. “Our POA1 facility is providing secure cloud computing, data storage, and networking capabilities to enable energy providers, hospitals, telecommunications companies, government agencies, and others to operate seamlessly.”

Elea’s second Porto Alegre data center site (POA2) was evacuated on Saturday, May 4, to ensure staff safety, and customers were promptly notified to migrate their critical systems. Elea is organizing an emergency logistics route to maintain the provision of essential resources such as fiber, network connectors, and electrical outlets for Porto Alegre. This route involves a dedicated team of logistics experts working tirelessly to ensure these resources’ timely delivery, enabling customers to keep their IT operations active in a secure location. In Curitiba, Paraná, the company set up a logistics center for emergency operations, sending transport, parts, teams, and supplies to Rio Grande do Sul.

“The people of Porto Alegre have shown tremendous resilience and Elea is committed to supporting the community through our data center capabilities during the recovery process,” continued Lombardi. “We are coordinating with local personnel and resources to maintain operations and deliver any aid to those affected.”

Elea’s actions reinforce its investment and long-standing presence in Porto Alegre, Brazil’s region’s most prominent digital infrastructure operator. The company’s team remains focused on service continuity while expressing solidarity with all impacted by this catastrophe.
